EMDR As An Adjunct Therapy

EMDR As An Adjunct Therapy

Collaborating with Providers Throughout Ohio

We’ve all had those moments in therapy where we feel stuck on issues. It can be discouraging for both the client and the therapist. I am excited to officer adjunct EMDR therapy, to partner with, the primary therapist and client to help move treatment forward.

In partnering with primary therapists and their clients we can target the clients’ specific memories, body sensations, or limiting beliefs with EMDR. In using EMDR adjunct to traditional therapy, I will aim to target specific traumatic memories or intrusive material, to accelerate progress, to resolve stuck points, and enrich the clients’ ongoing work.

Adjunct therapy does not need to replace or interrupt ongoing therapy; consider it supplemental or in addition to. With adjunct EMDR therapy, clients are free to continue to receiving treatment with their primary therapist. Adjunct therapy is designed to be brief (4-12 extended sessions). Treatment is scheduled in an intensive format. Please remember the success of treatment is based on clearly defined goals for the EMDR therapist, defined in collaboration with the primary therapist and client.

There are literally hundreds of protocols besides the standard method, which is what is taught in basic training.

Post basic training and continuing on in my EMDR career I have received multiple trainings including these following EMDRIA approved protocols:

EMDR Standard Protocol for Adults

EMDR Integrative Group Treatment Protocol For Ongoing Traumatic Stress ((EMDR-IGTP-OTS)

EMDR PRECI (Protocol for Recent Critical Incidents and Ongoing Traumatic Stress)

ASSYST - Acute Stress Syndrome Stabilization Procedure for Individuals (ASSYST-I)

ASSYST-G -Acute Stress Syndrome Stabilization Procedure for Groups (ASSYST-G)

EMDR and Play Therapy for Children and Adolescents

With my work focusing on helping professionals, the following protocols are with you in mind.

The EMDR Protocol for Recent Critical Incidents and Ongoing Traumatic Stress (EMDR-PRECI) was developed in the field to treat critical incidents that were related to stressful events that continued for an extended period and where there is not a post-trauma safety period for memory consolidation. There is evidence supporting this protocol and show EMDR-PRECI helps to prevent the development of chronic PTSD and to increase psychological and emotional resilience.

The Acute Stress Syndrome Stabilization procedures (ASSYST-Individuals and ASSYST-Group) focus on the desensitization of the acute stress symptoms with special attention on the intrusive somatic and sensory components of the traumatic experience. The goal of these procedures is to help you to reduce arousal levels (inside their window of tolerance) to facilitate your AIP system in the spontaneous processing of the information.
