LGBTQIA+ and Their Families
When you’re ready to start therapy, whether for symptoms associated with your sexual, romantic, or gender identity or for other concerns related to mental health, finding someone qualified who has experience and familiarity with the challenges members of the LGBTQIA+ community often face can be critical. I am happy to be the therapist that provides the services to best fit you while meeting your personal needs .
Reasons the LGBTQIA+ community may seek treatment:
Low Self-Esteem
Insecurity
Depression
Anxiety
Anger Issues
Hopelessness
Resentment
Suicidal Thoughts
Family Rejection
Abuse/Trauma
According to the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) and Trever Project:
86% of LGBTQ youth reported being harassed or assaulted at school
Only 37% of LGBTQ youth identified their home as an LGBTQ-affirming space
40% of transgender adults have attempted suicide in their lifetime, compared to less than 5% of the general U.S. population
There are higher rates of mental health issues in the LGBTQ community (20-30%) compared to the general population (9%).
