Military Personnel and Their Families

Military Personnel

Serving Military Personnel and their Partners/Spouses in Central Ohio and virtually throughout the state of Ohio.

It’s a challenge. You’re reluctant to get help, I get that. You’re expected to be tough and remain calm even in the most distressing situations. But now you’re back from deployment and having trouble sleeping. Maybe you’re having flashbacks, nightmares and recurring thoughts. The survivors guilt after a loss. Or your relationship with alcohol has changed through the years. Maybe the constant relocation is weighing heavy on your family and you and your spouse just can’t get on the same page.

Serving in the military comes with unique challenges and sacrifices. At Fostering Fortitude, we recognize the extraordinary commitment of military personnel (and their families) and offer specialized therapy services tailored to address the distinct emotional and psychological aspects of your journey.

Being the spouse or partner of an active-duty service member brings the responsibility of maintaining a home and family alone. Uprooting from one home to another is stressful and may present similar transition difficulties as families look to build a life and community somewhere new.

Long-Term Mental Health Effects of Military Life

The challenges of military life can create problems in relationships and families. The uncertainty and disruptions that come with military service can cause family members to feel very anxious, depressed, or develop long-lasting mental health issues. Many spouses worry that seeking help for stress or depression could harm their partner's chances of getting promoted.
Separation and Uncertainty
Deployed service members are physically separated from their immediate family. They often don't have access to the internet to communicate with their spouse, children, parents, and friends. Moving frequently is a common part of military life, which can be very disruptive. It means changing schools for military children, making new friends, and traveling long distances for work. It's challenging to find extracurricular activities, a new place of worship, or other similar activities, which can strain any family.
Spousal Career Challenges
Military spouses often face obstacles in pursuing their education or advancing in their careers. Frequent moves and a lack of support can be demoralizing and make it difficult to climb the career ladder.

I create a safe and inclusive space for military families to share their experiences and navigate the complexities of military life. Your unique journey is valued, and I am here to provide support without judgment. Deployments can be emotionally challenging for both the deployed service member and their families. As a therapist I will offer coping strategies to manage stress, maintain communication, and foster resilience during deployment periods. The transition back to civilian life after deployment can bring its own set of challenges. And services provide support for service members and their families during the reintegration process, addressing potential stressors and promoting a smoother adjustment.
